Kind humans save a cute screaming kitten from a sewer drain, but the "normal" kitten won't stop growing, so his humans begin wondering: 'He is absorbing the weight of 15-20% of everything he eat'

Whenever you bring a stray cat home, you have to be ready for anything.

That is what we have learned over our time writing for ICHC. Maybe you will be one of the rare ones - one of the people who rescue a completely normal kitten. One that has no quirks or strange obsessions or qualities. Just a normal cat. But more likely than not, if you rescue a cat from the street, you will get some of that uniqueness. Maybe you will get a cat that is obsessed with snap peas. Maybe you will get a cat who hates closed doors and yells at each and every one that it encounters. Maybe you'll get a cat who'll suddenly change color and make you wonder if it's not quite as normal as you thought it was.

Or maybe, you will end up going thorugh something similar to what this couple is going through. Maybe you will rescue what looks like a completely normal kitten, behaves like a completely normal kitten, and is in purrfect health. But that kitten will not stop growing. Ever. Not slowing down for anything. Maybe you will end up in that situation and find yourselves asking, just like these people did, if their normal cat is, in fact, normal.

You may think that this is concerning, but we actually think that this is the best thing in the world. It's like getting a Maine Coon cat for free. Having a giant cat is one of the world's greatest unacknowledged privileges. Of course, cuddling with a regular cat is all well and good, but cuddling with an extra big one, actually being able to tuck it next to you and spoon it like you would another human… one of the best feelings in the world. We have one of these cats. We acknowledge our privilege. And in due time, the panic will subside, and you will learn to enjoy it too.

Yup. They don't need to be any special breed or anything to be big. Our giant cat is also just a regular trashcan kitty. She just kind of- started growing and didn't really stop. And to think that once, more than ten years ago, our itty bitty kitty was able to travel around the house with us, using out shoulder as her seat. To think that she once fit right into the palm of our hand. And now, our entire lap is not quite enough to hold her. How times change. And each and every stage with them is amazing.
